The June 1 Parks and Recreation Commission minutes, newly visible on the town’s general meeting-minutes page, say youth baseball, softball and soccer groups used the meeting to outline what they think the park needs next. Baseball representatives said the program serves about 450 players on 50 teams and is maxed out, especially for ages 8 to 12. Soccer representatives said the club serves about 640 players across travel and recreation programs and identified parking shortages, bathroom access and safety issues for children crossing streets.
The minutes identify several recurring themes: limited field capacity, event parking pressure, interest in turf fields, and concern about future Vincek Field parking. They also say the town plans to distribute a recreation survey to about 6,000 households and continue working with its planning and landscape-architecture group.
The same minutes note discussion of alternate recreation properties off Scout Road and near Forest Grove and Ridgeview. They also record an update that work is underway on the Northern Pines path and parking lot.
