Newly posted minutes from Wilton’s Aug. 10 Code & Zoning Revision Committee meeting show the town working through separate draft changes for outdoor lighting and a new multi-use path section in Chapter 107.
Minutes now visible on Wilton’s meeting-minutes page show the committee completed its review of an outdoor-lighting draft local law at the Aug. 10 meeting.
According to the minutes, members refined a construction-lighting exemption, kept complaint-based enforcement and notice provisions, changed penalty language to graduated fines, and asked the chair to prepare a clean draft for possible Town Board referral.
The same minutes show the committee opening what it called a multi-use path amendment to Chapter 107 and reviewing it section by section.
The posted summary says the draft would create a maintenance and liability framework separate from the town’s sidewalk standards. Abutting-owner snow-removal duties would stay tied to sidewalks, while maintenance for multi-use paths would instead be governed through site-plan or subdivision approval.
The minutes also describe discussion of insurance and indemnification, a tighter standard for owner-caused defects in paved surfaces, and treatment of Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes by reference to applicable classifications. A streetlight specification was also updated from a discontinued high-pressure-sodium lamp to an LED module capped at 3000 Kelvin while keeping the fixture’s appearance.
Other notes in the minutes show the hamlet-district subcommittee reviewing comparable codes from other municipalities and the energy subcommittee continuing work on a longer-term battery energy storage system and solar framework.
Wilton’s Sept. 14 committee agenda shows the Chapter 107 Multi-Use Path & Trail Code returning for more discussion. As of Sept. 18, the town had not yet posted Sept. 14 minutes, so the next public record to watch is whether the committee advanced that language or referred any draft to the Town Board.
